ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A kagawad finally surrendered six days after he allegedly shot dead a neighbor last March 7, 2023 in Brgy. Canapian, Maayon, Capiz.

Kagawad Virgelio Descalzota, 41, of Canapian, voluntarily gave himself up to local authorities Sunday afternoon.

Descalzota is accused of killing Frediemor Lucas, 27, also a resident of Barangay Canapian.

He fled after the incident using his car which was later found abandoned in the village.

Master Sergeant Guadencio Demingoy Jr., Maayon police investigator, said witnesses narrated that there was no compelling reason for Descalzota to kill Lucas.

Prior to the incident, a birthday party was being held at the suspect’s house.

Descalzota, Lucas, and his unnamed companion were all drunk.

Demingoy said the party was over when Descalzota and the victim’s companion figured in a heated argument.

At the height of their verbal tussle, Descalzota drew a gun and fired it in the air twice. He then saw the approaching Lucas.

“Descalzota might have thought that the victim would attack him,” Demingoy said.

The suspect then repeatedly shot the victim.
