BACOLOD City – A village councilman was shot dead after he was robbed by an unidentified man inside his feed supply store at a public market in Barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental Monday morning.

Killed was Kagawad Edward Dominic Algara, 45, of the said village. He was on his last term as barangay official.

Police Captain Rhojn Darell Nigos, town police chief, said Algara was with his two employees when the armed robber suddenly entered the store around 11:20 a.m., and shot him.

Nigos said that the robber whose face was covered, allegedly carted away undetermined amount of cash, and fled on board a motorcycle.

Algara was taken to Valladolid District Hospital, where he was declared dead due to two gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Police recovered from the scene an empty shell and a slug of .45 caliber. No other injuries were reported.

“We cannot reconcile or conclude what really happened inside the store because people nearby the store, including his employees ran, fearing for their safety,” the town police said.

Nigos said they are also investigating if the armed robber has companions, following reports from some people, claiming that a white Toyota Innova without license plate was tailing the suspect during his escape.

With this, all barangays and neighboring police stations were alerted to flag down all Innova units, he added.

Nigos said they are checking the background of the victim, including his credit line to determine other possible angles which triggered the incident.
