IMAGES OF TRAGEDY

AUGUST 3, 2019 was a gloomy day. The heavens wept heavily as the passengers and crew of three motorized pump boats hung on for their lives amid the strong current, wind, and rain in the strait that separates Iloilo and Guimaras.

MB Chi-Chi and MB Keziah 2 were cruising the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait from Parola Wharf to Jordan Wharf when a pugada or storm surge hit them.

The Philippine Coast Guard Iloilo suspended boat trips after the first mishap. After 3 hours, the trips resumed when the skies cleared. But what the public and the authorities thought was improved weather ended in another tragedy – MB Jenny Vince with 35 passengers capsized. (Photos by Ricky Alejo, Jennifer P.
