The Iloilo Kisela Knights settled for another 1-1 split during Day 10 of the 2021 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Premier Association Cup playoffs.

It was a tough opening matchup for the Kisela Knights after tasting defeat at the hands of the Pasig City King Pirates, 13-8, but managed to bounce back against the Laguna Heroes, 12.5-8.5.

Despite starting the blitz category on a high note, the Kisela Knights failed to win more playing boards in the rapid category against Pasig.

Iloilo only pulled off two wins in the last seven playing boards compared to Pasig’s four wins and one draw that proved to be their edge.

Determined to bounce back to avoid a sweeping defeat, the Kisela Knights performed better against Laguna.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair in the first seven playing boards as Laguna managed to end the blitz category with a 3.5 tie.

However, the Kisela Knights’ offense began to click in the rapid category as they won four playing boards with one draw to finish the category with a 9-5 score.

Despite the split, Iloilo still sits in the Southern division’s no. 2 spot with an impressive score of 143 points behind the PH Paralympic team.
