Illegal recruitment victims seek guv’s help

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Victims of alleged illegal recruitment here sought the help of Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras.

More than 200 individuals trooped to the office of governor at the provincial capitol and ventilated their grievances against a native of this city and her Korean partner.

The complainants claimed that Ramilyn Andrade of Brgy. Bolo here and her alleged Korean partner Kim Tae Yong are nowhere to be found after promising to send them to South Korea to work in factories in exchange for placement fees.

Some of the complainants, who came from Bacolod City, Iloilo City and Kalibo in Aklan, sought the help of the Roxas City PNP and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Capiz.

According to them, LG Santon Company failed to bring them to Korea despite paying their placement fee, terminal fee and insurance.

Rene (not his real name) said the recruiters promised them salaries of P170, 000 for male and P130,000 for female if they work in factories in Busan, South Korea.

It was learned that each jobseeker paid P75,000 to Andrade and Tae Yong.

The victims have told them that their scheduled flight was in July 2019 but it was cancelled for some reasons.

The recruiter also promised that the second batch will fly to South Korea on Oct 20, 2019 but it was also cancelled and rescheduled to Nov 10 only to be postponed again.

Meanwhile, Contreras governor assured the victims of help by providing them free legal assistance through the Provincial Legal Office.

The governor said that the victims could directly endorse their cases against the Korean national and his live in partner who are nowhere to be found.

Village chief Siolly Andrade of Barangay Bolo here said that Ramilyn was a niece but he was not aware of her recruitment business.

All he knew that she was applying for a job in South Korea.
