BACOLOD City – Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson and Negros Occidental 5th District Rep. Dino Yulo are eyeing the completion of the Himamaylan-Tayasan road network to address the insurgency problem in the area.

Tongson said that from the end of Himamaylan City, the road network passes through Barangay Carabalan where a series of clashes between the New People’s Army (NPA) and government forces happened.

He lamented that every time there is a skirmish between the two groups, residents in the area are forced to evacuate.

Tongson theorized that once the stretch of road on the side of the city is developed, it would pave way for progress and development in the area and will discourage the rebels to thrive among the residents.

“Because this would mean easy access to government services as far as the people in the area are concerned,” he added.

He pointed out that the road on the side of Tayasan town is already completed when both ends were supposed to have started together.

The Himamaylan-Tayasan road will also serve as an alternate route from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental and will improve trade and commerce between the two localities.

It will also shorten the one-hour travel time between Negros Occidental and Oriental by 30 minutes.

Yulo said he has already allocated P8 million for the said road network.

He added that he will continue to source out more funds for the completion of the said road network.
