Health worker is latest COVID-19 case in WV

A male health worker from the province of Capiz is the latest additional case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Region 6, according to Department of Health-Center for Health Development Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6).

In a bulletin issued on Wednesday, the health department confirmed that the additional case is a 32-year-old male from Roxas City, Capiz.

According to Dr. Ma. Julia Villanueva, assistant regional director of DOH-CHD 6, WV Patient No. 105 is a health worker with no known exposure to a confirmed case.

“He is a health worker from Capiz with no known exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 case. He is currently under home quarantine,” Villanueva said in an online press briefing on Wednesday.

The patient manifested cough and fever last May 24, 2020. His swabs were taken on May 18 and returned a positive result on Wednesday.

Based on the records of the health department, 11 of the 1,182 health workers who were tested using the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technology were positive for COVID-19 positive.

Villanueva said the infected health workers accounted for 10 percent of the total 105 cases in the region.

The infected health workers include doctors, nurses, medical health personnel, ambulance drivers, barangay health workers, responders, and other frontliners in the region, according to Villanueva.

Meanwhile, four new patients from Iloilo City have recovered from COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The four new recoveries include a 51-year-old female from La Paz Iloilo City (WV Patient No.51) and three repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), a 50-year-old male from Molo, Iloilo City (WV Patient No.94 ); a 30-year-old male from La Paz, Iloilo City (WV Patient No.95) and a 23-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 96).
