HATAG BUGAY: Giving hope to Persons with Disabilities

September 21, 2021 was a good and life-changing day for the Rotary Club of Iloilo and its partners in the Hatag Bugay project for Persons with Disabilities in Iloilo City.

The project is a joint effort with the Federation of Persons with Disabilities Associations in Iloilo City (FPDAIC), Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), NEARSOL, SM City-Iloilo, Global Business Power Corp, MORE Electric and Power Corp, Universal Robina Corp. and Rotaract Iloilo City.

The institutional partners provided food packs, hygiene kits, rice, and vitamins for our PWDs who were severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The distribution was held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand in Iloilo City with strict observance of health protocols.

Most PWDs, especially those working in the personal care industry, lost their jobs either permanently or temporarily because of months of lockdowns.

On hand to distribute the assistance were NEARSOL team headed by International Operations Manager for Iloilo Luis Ortiz along with Carl Villaluz, Joemar Anacion, and Mark August Diaz. Also present were Federation of Persons with Disabilities Associations in Iloilo City president Albert Madiclum and vice president Rolly Juson.

RC Iloilo president Francis Allan “Franz” L. Angelo thanked the club’s partners for their contributions and the Iloilo City government under Mayor Jerry Treñas, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office head Jeck Conlu, Executive Assistant Mitch Antiqueña, and Police Capt. Shella Mae Sangrines and the team of Police Executive Master Sgt. Esmael Sumagaysay of Iloilo City Police Station 1.
