Guimaras students off to PH Festival of Talents

THE province of Guimaras is the overall champion in the 2019 Regional Festival of Talents On-the-Spot Skills Exhibition on Population and Development sponsored by the Commission on Population in Partnership with the Department of Education last January 5, 2019.

Jerlyn B. Granada of Supang National High School in Buenanavista, Guimaras bagged the championship in Jingle Writing and Singing Contest.

Meanwhile, Justine CinceCasono and Hared Clark E. Danozo, students of Cresente P. Chavez Central School in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras finished second runner-up in Kasaysayan, Heograpiya at KulturangPilipinas or Histo Quiz.

Princess Sarah Z. Gabinta of Remedios E. Vilches-San Lorenzo National High School was hailed champion debater when she topped the Debate Contest.

The winners of the said competition will represent Western Visayas in the 2019 National Festival of Talents (NFOT) in Dagupan City on the last week of January this year.

Roilo Vincent Laguna, Information Officer III of the Commission on Population and Development, said the participants from Guimaras were prepared for the competition.

“The participants from the Division of Guimaras, we believed came prepared bagging two championships and emerged as Overall Champion. Gabinata for Debate and Granada for Jingle Writing and Singing exhibited exemplary performances taking into consideration the fact that it’s a contest at the same time an advocacy event for them,” Laguna said.

The commission is confident that these students will make the region proud when they compete at the national tilt.

“Commission on Population and Development and DepEd are confident that they will be able to represent the region well in the National Festival of Talents in Dagupan City,” he added.

Other winners are Joshua Anthony G. Cruz of Cadiz City in Pop Quiz, Franzene Jae L. Nobleza of Iloilo City in Poster Making Contest, Danyaella Holyster M. Pineda and Cyril Jude Avancena of Iloilo City in Histo Quiz.

NFOT aims to provide opportunity for learners from secondary schools and Alternative Learning System (ALS) to exhibit their talents and skills in language, arts, social studies, technology, and livelihood education.
