GSC faces Sta. Teresa for NBTC-Guimaras title

IT WILL be a battle between veteran and rookie cagers in the 2018 National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Guimaras finals as Guimaras State College (GSC) takes on Sta. Teresa National High School (STNHS) at the latter’s court in Jordan town on Jan. 9, 2019.

Defending champion GSC routed fourth seed Good Shepherd’s Fold Academy (GSFA), 93-78, to reach the finals.

Ajie Ferrer provided the sparks for GSC with 24 points, while Lloyd Lanado failed to carry Good Shepherd’s to victory after he was limited to 18 points.

Third seed Sta. Teresa National High posted an upset win against second seed Buenavista National High School (BNHS) during their semis encounter, 97-90.

Harold Peter Balano finished with 26 points for STNHS, while John Carlo Dofitas paced Buenavista with 17 points.

NBTC Guimaras commissioner Richard Gabayoyo said he expects a tough finals game as both teams want to represent the island-province in the regional tournament.

“This will be a good fight, with GSC trying to retain their title and Sta. Teresa posing a threat to the champions. I’m inviting everyone to witness this match and let’s support our own teams in this tournament,” he added.

The winning team will represent Guimaras in the Regional NBTC in Iloilo City.
