BACOLOD City – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) allegedly gunned down a government rescue truck driver at Sitio Panangan, Barangay Candabong, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental on Oct. 19.

Killed was Artilano Gomez of Brgy. Tupas, Manjuyod town.

A report from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) said that three unidentified armed men called Gomez while he was eating breakfast at an eatery past 8 a.m.

When the victim came near them, the assailants shot him then fled.

Gomez succumbed to a gunshot wound on the head.

The Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (IB), in a press statement, strongly condemned the unlawful act of the communist NPA terrorists.

“They always claim to be the true protectors of the people, but they are doing exactly the opposite. They were the ones putting burden on to the lives of the people,” the Army said.
