BACOLOD City – Globe Telecom External Affairs for Visayas-Mindanao head Patrick Steven Gloria explained on June 10, 2019 the cause of the sudden loss of internet connection for Globe subscribers in Visayas and Mindanao.

In a quarterly meeting with the local media entities here, Gloria said the sudden outage was due to two damaged submarine cables, which connect South Luzon and a third line which connects Legazpi, Albay and Calbayog, Samar.

Prior to that, Gloria said the last time the connection was cut was during an earthquake in China several years ago. The downtime stretched to at least two to three months.

Gloria said they have yet to determine what caused the line cuts, and it could take time for the broken submarine cables to be repaired, as it would need a team from Japan to get their specialized vessel in the Southern Luzon area, dive for the submarine cables, and locate the damage.

The connection was also restored four hours after the initial outage.
