BACOLOD City – A 10-year-old girl who was half-naked was found dead in a sugarcane field in Murcia, Negros Occidental Wednesday night.

Maj. Robert Dejucos, town police chief, withheld the name of the victim who was a Grade 5 pupil.

Dejucos said the victim sustained head injuries when found by her family around 9 p.m. almost five hours after she was reported missing.

Dejucos said the victim left her sister’s house at 4:20 p.m. after she was told to buy frozen food for their dinner.

However, she failed to go home that afternoon which prompted her sister to look for her.

Her sister even sought the assistance of the barangay officials but they couldn’t find her until they stopped searching for her when a power interruption occurred.

When the power was restored, they continued searching for her until they found her at the said muddy area.

Initially, the victim had injuries with broken bones but Dejucos said they are still waiting for the autopsy results to also confirm if she was indeed raped since her underwear and pair of shorts were found beside her.

Dejucos believed that the victim was probably killed somewhere and was left there by the unidentified suspects.

Dejucos said people seldom pass by the area because it was muddy and it was very remote. However, that day, the victim probably opted to pass by that area for a shortcut.

He said that it was the first time that such incident happened there.

He believed that the victim was killed because she knew the suspects.

“We already have two persons of interest behind this killing. And we are trying our best to arrest them and give justice to the child,” he said.

Dejucos said that whoever did this to the child should come out because the crime they have committed is “very disturbing.”
