GBP turn over folding beds to Iloilo

HELP Global Business Power, represented by its Customer Affairs Head Mr. Gil Altamira (middle), Community Relations Officer Michael Guanco (2nd from left) and Community Relations staff Ms. Christine Momville (1st from left) turn over 70 folding beds to provincial administrator Atty. Suzette Mamon (2nd from right) and Hospital Management Office (HMO) chief Atty. Cynthia Cabangal-Ng, M.D (extreme right) to be used in Iloilo district hospitals in responding to the dengue outbreak.

Global Business Power Corporation (GBP), through subsidiaries Panay Energy Development Corporation and Panay Power Corporation, recently turned over folding beds to the Iloilo provincial government in response to the dengue outbreak.

The province of Iloilo has been placed under a state of calamity after a 259% increase in dengue cases from the previous year. A total of 18,834 cases of the mosquito-borne disease have been recorded between January and July of this year alone, with 94 fatalities reported.

The rise in dengue patients has swamped public hospitals, and Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. has appealed to the private sector to help public hospitals cope with the outbreak. The Department of Health has also declared a national dengue alert, which prompts hospitals, health centers, and local governments to be prepared in responding to dengue cases.

GBP operates 11 power generation facilities in Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan, and Mindoro. In 2017, the company acquired a 50% stake in Mindanao-based Alsons Thermal Energy Corporation.
