From Think Big to Level Up

FROM MIWD insiders: Flo Water has this habit of cutting bulk water supply to Metro Iloilo Water District every time its owner finds fault in the latter’s court. As a result, water consumers in the city were the ones who suffered from an acute lack of water supply weeks ago.

Indeed, if Flo Water of Mr. Rogelio Florete has any issues against MIWD, based on their contract, it can always lodge a challenge or complaint before a proper forum, say our courts of law. Flo Water’s knee jerk actions are nothing but childish tantrums. It doesn’t serve the public MIWD pledged to serve.

Same MIWD insiders informed this corner that Flo Water allegedly begged for the resumption of their water supply contract but MIWD may have some second thoughts. In fact, some of its executives are mulling to sue Flo Water for breach of contract.

LEVEL UP? When Jerry Treñas became mayor of Iloilo City in 2001 (his first term), he used this slogan: Think Big Think Iloilo.

Yes, Iloilo became bigger than it was before his term but not just because of his leadership but more of Senator Franklin Drilon’s. It was the former senate president who influenced the national government to pour in billions for badly-needed infrastructure projects that helped position Iloilo City as a viable investment destination.

It was also Drilon who encouraged certain big players in the energy sector to stabilize the power situation not only in the city but the entire region.

Drilon also encouraged big-name property developers to help position the city as a viable Business Process Outsourcing center outside of Manila and Cebu.

Treñas, after nine years in Congress, returns to City Hall for his 4th term, this time selling the slogan LEVEL UP.

By the way, what happened to Uswag Iloilo? Nawas-ag?

Despite certain glaring misdeeds of Treñas in his previous terms (example: P130-million Pavia housing scam), this corner wishes him all the best in his current term. We want him to succeed. We need him to further spur the local economy so that more jobs can be generated. We want him to continue building a better metropolis, a progressive community which benefits everyone, especially the have-nots.

His slogans may be nice to read but the Ilonggos need results. No more lip service, please.

For sure though, Iloilo City cannot level up without adequate water supply. It cannot move up with a bulk water supplier who cries like a baby every time his diaper gets wet.

But the mayor and the owner of Flo Water are friends, aren’t they?
