BACOLOD City – Four persons were wounded after a Ceres Liner bus overshot the gutter and rammed into some passengers who were sitting on a chair in a bus terminal in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental yesterday.

According to Jade Seballos, media and legal officer of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), the bus was supposed to park when it overshot the gutter.

The incident was also captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

People flocked to the bus to assist the passengers who were stuck beneath the vehicle.

Fortunately, no fatality was reported, as the four passengers only suffered minor injuries, according to Seballos.

Seballos said that two of the four wounded persons were admitted to the hospital, while the remaining were already discharged. They were already provided medical assistance.

“Dako na pasalamatan namon nga wala serious injuries, minor lang, daw mga bun-og bun-og,” she added.

After the incident, Seballos said the bus on the Dumaguete to Bayawan City route was checked by maintenance personnel but they did not find any mechanical defect.

“Gin pakuhaan gid video during checking para mabal-an kung may mechanical defect ang bus, pero wala gid ya, kay ok man ang unit, kay kung may problema, indi man na siya magiho,” Seballos added.

Seballos said the bus driver has been with the company for 15 years and has no record of any accident.

In fact, prior to the incident, Seballos said the bus driver even came from the office to get his zero-accident incentives.

Seballos said the bus driver is in police custody for further investigation to determine what really caused the accident.

With the said incident, Seballos said the bus driver will be suspended so he can take a break for a while, pending the result of the investigation.

“Indi siya anay ka drive kay kabudlay, ka delikado, kakululbaan. Kung ano dangtan sang investigation, dira kami mapapanaog man decision,” she added.
