Four members of Malay Police Station deployed to Boracay Island were caught using their mobile phones over the weekend apart from leaving their posts.

Worse, the person who caught their “misdemeanors” was Police Colonel Remus Zacharias Canieso, Western Visayas’ second highest ranking police officer.

Canieso was in Boracay Island over the weekend when he made rounds and discovered that the four cops – three policemen and a policewoman – violated PNP guidelines.

One of them admitted that he was on YouTube while the policewoman said she was on Viber during their duty.

The two other policemen said they were just around their supposed post when Canieso checked on them.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said they were “corrected on the spot.”

On Monday, November 4, the four officers reported to Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) headquarters at Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.

They underwent physical exercises in front of the PRO-6 administration building from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Malong said it is up to Canieso if corresponding administrative charges will be filed against the four officers.

The PRO-6 hierarchy has been repeatedly reminding its personnel against using mobile phones while on duty, unless it is for official purposes.

They were also told not to smoke in public if they are in uniform.
