Flooding forces LGUs to suspend classes in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Massive flooding caused by continuous heavy downpours forced some local government units (LGU) in Capiz to suspend school classes and even government work.

Though there was no order from the Department of Education(DepEd), Mayors Raymund Malapajo of Maayon, Katherine Belo of Panitan and Vicente Bermejo of Panay suspended school classes at all levels in their respective areas.

In Tapaz town, Vice Mayor Romel Mayor Somo suspended government work in the municipality aside from school classes.

Somo is the acting mayor of Tapaz as Mayor Roberto Palomar is on leave.

Meanwhile, the Dumalag town reported that as of 12 pm Wednesday, roads leading to Mait Bridge connecting Brgys. Sto Niño and Sto. Angel is no longer passable because of the flood.

Brgy. Tumalalud in Mambusao town was also not passable.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has alerted all Municipal DRRMOs in the 16 towns and Roxas City to prepare for possible rescue operations should the floods continue.
