Fish vendor collared for raping mentally ill woman

A fish vendor was arrested morning of January 18, 2021 over accusations that he sexually abused a mentally challenged woman in Tapaz, Capiz.

Members of Dumalag and Tapaz municipal police stations arrested 36-year-old Michael Gabucay at his place at Hacienda Conchita, Barangay San Francisco, Tapaz.

Gabucay is the subject of a warrant of arrest for rape in Criminal Case No.  C-20-2151-12. The warrant was issued by Judge Rommel Leonor of the Regional Trial Court Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz on December 29, 2020.

No bail was recommended for his provisional liberty.

According to police records, the alleged rape incident happened midnight of September 6, 2020 while the 29-year-old victim attended a relative’s birthday party.

Gabucay reportedly dragged her out of the kitchen and took her to a nearby corn plantation where the alleged rape happened.

Gabucay is in the custody of Dumalag Police Station and will be turned over to the court concerned.
