Fire victims to get higher cash aid

The Iloilo City Government will increase the financial assistance given to fire affected families whose houses were totally and partially burned.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III said the P10,000 cash assistance will be given to fire victims whose houses were totally damaged, an increase from previous P7,000; while those with partially damaged houses will receive P7,000 from P5,000 previously.

Espinosa said the additional support will help the fire victims buy their needed things in building their houses.

“We understand that they need to build their houses and the materials are so expensive, that is why we increased the assistance given to them,” Espinosa said.

This is the second round of increase initiated by Espinosa. The City Hall originally gave P5,000 and P2,500 for totally and partially damaged houses, respectively.

The City Government provided them with food packs and other basic needs immediately after the fire.

Espinosa said fire victims from Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao will first receive the increase including 48 totally damaged houses and three that were partially damaged.

Espinosa advised all barangays to be vigilant and ensure that their respective fire brigade is functional considering that fire is common this summer season. (PIO)
