ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Families who lost their houses to a fire that hit Poblacion Brgy. Culasi here last August 17 received P12,000 financial assistance each.

Kagawad Enrico Joseph said the P10,000 came from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while P2,000 was from the office of Sen. Christopher Bong Go.

Aside from the cash aid, the fire victims also received assistance from the city and provincial governments.

Roxas City Councilor Trina Marie Almalbis-Ignacio provided electric fans to each affected family and other assistance from the private sectors.

Earlier, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that P1.8 million worth of properties were lost to the fire.

Senior Fire Inspector Rowel Limjuco, Roxas City fire marshal, said the 13 houses were turned to ashes while 2 others were partially damaged.

The families were temporarily relocated to the barangay hall, civic center, and Culasi Elementary School.

The fire easily spread because the houses were mostly made of light and mixed materials.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Council of Culasi is proposing to widen the existing right of way to the area where the fire incident happened.

Fire trucks found it hard to penetrate the area where conflagration occurred because of the narrow path

The council proposed to widen the road to four meters.
