BACOLOD City – The two-story engineering building of the STI-West Negros University here was razed by fire Friday amid the incessant rains brought by a low-pressure area.

According to Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, the fire broke out from the second floor of the building around 5:31 p.m.

The fire damaged some of the 10 rooms on the said floor, he added.

Ploteña said nobody was inside the building when the blaze occurred.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared the fire out around 6:27 p.m. Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Ploteña said the building structure is already old and has not been used for classes. Its ceiling is made of mixed concrete and light materials, he added.

The fire gobbled an estimated P100,000 worth of properties. No injuries were reported.

In November 2019, a blaze also broke out at the School Basic Education (SBE) building of the said university.
