Fiesta sa Kakahuyan roadside tree planting

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Western Visayas joined the 20TH Fiesta sa Kakahuyan Roadside Tree Planting at Alimono, Salngan and Jaguimitan, Passi City on September 28, 2019.

A total of 10,000 assorted seedlings of forest and fruit trees were planted along the 11.5-kilometer road within the three barangays.

The activity was led by the Iloilo provincial government and graced by Passi City Mayor Hon. Stephen A. Palmares, DENR 6 Conservation and Development Division (CDD) Chief Danilo L. Lorilla, PENRO Iloilo Technical Services Division Chief Christopher L. Lastica, CENR Barotac Nuevo OIC Glenn S. Del Norte, Girl Scout of the Philippines, Quarry permittees, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies.

Fiesta sa Kakahuyan is an annual festival where Ilonggo people give importance to the preservation of the forest through a massive tree planting activity.

One of the ten (10) priority programs of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu is reforestation program which aims to “pursue sustainable development for poverty alleviation, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity conservation.”
