A former barangay captain of Capiz province was arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation late morning of October 11 at Estancia, Iloilo.

Police identified the suspect as Michael Quiachon, 47, a resident of Barangay Cogon, Panit-an, Capiz.

Members of Estancia Municipal Police Station, together with personnel from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) Intelligence Unit and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, arrested Quiachon in a buy-bust operation at Purok Dalinoan, Barangay Pa-on, Estancia.

Recovered from Quiachon were the marked money, a mobile phone, a sling bag, nine sachets of suspected shabu, and a hand grenade.

Staff Sergeant Dandy Gallego, Estancia police investigator, said the seized illegal drugs weighed around 20 grams and were valued at P136,000.

Gallego said the suspect is listed as a street-level individual.

Quiachon was monitored to be in the illegal drug trade more than a month ago.

Gallego said the suspect has been staying in Estancia where his wife resides.

But the police couldn’t determine yet where Quiachon sourced his drug supply.

The suspect is presently detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 9516 (Unlawful Manufacture, Sales, Acquisition, Disposition, Importation or Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device).
