Enterprises urged to embrace e-commerce

BACOLOD City – Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Negros Occidental have been urged to embrace electronic commerce (e-commerce) in today’s era of connectivity.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) made the call as entrepreneurs need to be “connected” with their suppliers and markets.

Rachel Nufable, chief trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, said in a statement on Tuesday that MSMEs should be updated about the “in” thing in making connections with everyone.

“We continue to encourage MSMEs to go global by going digital. Or else, they will be left behind. Even at home, at the workplace, or going mobile we just have to be connected and updated to reach people faster and easier,” she added.

Four enterprises in Negros Occidental being assisted by the DTI recently participated in the digitalization initiative of a telecommunications firm, which was held in Bacolod City.

“Our MSMEs should really be connected with other parts of the whole supply chain,” Nufable said, adding that the DTI welcomes the support of private companies like Globe Telecom to assist entrepreneurs in engaging with the digital platform.

Last week, Globe myBusiness Academy invited eight enterprises in Bacolod, including the four endorsed by DTI-Negros Occidental, to highlight their products through demonstration and selling in support of the agency’s Go Lokal campaign.

Artisan Island Crafts, M’con Pieces, Yssa’s Crafts and Ruby Fashion, which are included in DTI’s priority sectors, highlighted their products through demonstration and selling.

During the event held at SM City Bacolod, Globe myBusiness marketing head Celeste Porto cited the DTI data that MSMEs contribute 36 percent to the country’s economy.

“They are the driver of economic growth and development, and Globe myBusiness really recognizes that. We are here to provide you not just with products but also with services to help the MSMEs really embrace these digital technologies,” she added. (PNA)
