An elderly man crashed his car in Carles, Iloilo late afternoon of Wednesday (August 18) after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Jose Maria Alvarez, 67, of Barangay Barosbos, Carles, died at a hospital.

The Carles Police Station reported that they received a report that a Toyota Vios (license plate FAB 1005), which Alvarez was driving, collided with a Ford sedan around 5:35 p.m. along the national highway at Barosbos village.

The other vehicle was driven by Lenin Lobaton, 60, a resident of Barangay Poblacion.

Witnesses said that Alvarez’s vehicle was headed towards Balasan town when it went wayward, swerved to the left, and collided into Lobaton’s vehicle, which was navigating on the opposite side of the road.

Alvarez was immediately rushed to Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan but was declared dead on arrival.

Lobaton was unscathed.

Major Nestor Bacuyag, Carles police chief, said it was theorized that Alvarez suffered a cardiac arrest prior to the collision.

Responders told police investigators that Alvarez looked like he went on a seizure and peed on his pants, the usual manifestations of someone who suffered a heart attack.

The victim had also no superficial injuries found on his body.

Both vehicles have incurred damages, though.
