BACOLOD City – An Eastern grass owl wandered off a sugarcane field at Barangay Alicante, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Police Captain Wilfredo Benoman Jr., town police chief, said some residents found the owl and turned it over to the police.
According to birdlife.org.au, this kind of specie is sometimes known as the “Daddy Long-legs Owl,” reflecting the prominence of its elongated, slender legs which are an adaption to living in marshy sedgelands, farmland, canefields and other open habitats with tussocks of grass. It can usually be found in Australia.
Benoman said it was the first time that such specie was sighted in the town.
The police turned over the owl to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) for proper disposition.
