“A WELCOME development.”

This is how commuter network The Passenger Forum (TPF) described President Duterte’s most recent promise to find a solution to flight cancellations and delays “within a month.”

TPF convenor Primo Morillo said, “It is high time for President Duterte to look at the urgent concerns of airline passengers. This is good and we are cautiously optimistic that the government will come up with the right solutions within a month.”

Morillo also suggested that the President take a closer look at the Air Passenger Bill of Rights and how to improve it. The Airline Passenger Bill of Rights is the Joint DOTr (then DOTC)-DTI Administrative Order No. 1, issued in 2012.

“In our opinion,” Morillo continued, “there are a few provisions in the said JAO that need some improvements. We are particularly pushing for making it easier for air passengers to claim their rights and entitlements contained in the policy, and to make certain amenities, like hotel accommodations and land transportation subsidy, compulsory in some cases of flight delays and cancellations.”

The Passenger Forum vowed to monitor the developments regarding the President’s promise especially for the next 30 days.
