DTI brings Bagsakan to Western Visayas

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) in partnership with the DTI Regional Office – Western Visayas jumpstarted its 2022 Bagsakan Special Project on March 2-6, 2022 at Robinsons Place Iloilo with a grand showcase of the best products of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Western Visayas.

Billed as the Bagsakan: Panubli-on, inspired by the Hiligaynon word meaning ‘heritage’ or ‘guardian of precious things,’ the five-day selling and order-taking event will feature more than 70 MSMEs from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as participants from Rizal and the NCR.

They will sell authentic delicacies, Filipino snacks, health and wellness products, handwoven items and handicrafts, fashion accessories, gifts and souvenirs, home accents, and furniture, among others.

DTI Undersecretary Abdulgani M. Macatoman of Trade Promotions Group, DTI Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona of the Regional Operations Group, BDTP Director Marievic Bonoan, Regional Director Rebecca Rascon, and DTI Provincial Directors will lead various activities of the event.

The initiative also includes a buying mission where institutional buyers from Luzon will source products and ink contracts with the MSME manufacturers of Region 6. Social distancing and health protocols shall be strictly observed.

Buyers and consumers who will not be able to join the physical event can still watch the activities via online streaming on the BDTP Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DTI.BDTP.

The Bagsakan Special Project started out as a crisis response to help farmers, fruit growers MSMEs and social coops sustain their livelihood during the pandemic.

This innovation contributed to the “Bayanihan We Heal As One Act” by ensuring the availability of food products while helping MSMEs sell their goods, thus supporting the economy amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Since 2020, the project has generated P44.28 M sales for 359 farmers and fruit growers associations, MSMEs and social coops from several regions.
