BACOLOD City – A male teenager who was believed to be drunk was rescued after he attempted to jump off the flyover along Araneta-Magsaysay Street here Tuesday morning.

Police Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 8, withheld the name of the 19-year-old boy from Barangay Taculing.

It was raining hard when the teenager went on top of the flyover and attempted to commit suicide around 9 a.m., the station commander said.

Patrolman Joseph Reyes and Patrolman Lorie Jane Metoda who were assigned as beat patrollers in the area responded and negotiated with the teenager. Rescuers prepared foams below the flyover in case the teenager pursued jumping.

After a few minutes, a policeman came near him and subdued him while he was paying attention to a motorist who stopped and talked to him. He was then brought to the police station for custody.

Gever said that the teenager was having a family problem which triggered him to commit such action.

He will be released after the 12-hour reglementary period if nobody files alarm and scandal charges against him.

Gever said the incident did not affect traffic flow in the area.
