The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office has completed two slope protection structures along the left and right banks of the Binalbagan River in Brgy. Bagacay in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

With a ₱154.4-million budget under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Infrastructures Project, the project involves the construction of slope protection on steel sheet pile, embankment, and reinforced concrete wall including parapet.

Citing a report from District Engineer Allan Rey R. Pajimna, DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said that each structure measures 392-lineal meters.

“These slope protection structures along the Binalbagan River are intended to safeguard residents from soil erosion and flash floods during the rainy season, which can be disastrous and harmful to people’s lives,” Bueno explained.

Bueno emphasized that the structures can help in reducing overflowing of water, which can disrupt properties and agricultural products of the residents.

“Having this kind of project can prevent water overflow, which may damage crops and other agricultural product along the river. It is our priority at the DPWH to ensure the lives and properties of Filipino people are secured and protected in the event of a natural disaster,” RD asserted. (DPWH-6)
