Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Antique District Engineering Office has completed the ₱47.23 million flood control structure in Barangay San Pedro in San Jose, Antique.
The project involves the construction of a 244-lineal meter revetment wall and four 30-lineal meter spur dikes which is part of 2-lane road concreting project in the area.
Based on the report of District Engineer Mark Anthony M. Alejo, DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said that the structure intends to protect the lives and property of people in Brgy. San Pedro and its neighboring barangays.
“The flood control structure in Brgy. San Pedro, San Jose is one of our major projects here in Antique. This will protect residents from the raging flood waters of the Sibalom River, especially during heavy rains and typhoons,” Bueno said.
“With the dangers posed by floods in the onset of rainy days, DPWH is here to provide infrastructures for the protection and safety of Filipinos.”
This structure will also connect to the ongoing esplanade project in Brgy. San Pedro that will serve as an alternative for small vehicles, decongesting traffic along Iloilo-Antique Road.
Brgy. San Pedro is one of the tourist attractions in San Jose due to its scenic background of the mountains and sparkling water of the river on sunny days. (DPWH-6)
