DPSM conducts workshop on the use of EMME Software for Transport Modelling

The Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) conducted a workshop titled “Use of EMME Software for Transportation Modeling” last April 27, 2022.

The purpose of the activity is to give an overview of the EMME software and how it can be utilized to model transportation plans.

The workshop was intended for faculty, staff, and researchers of the university.

Thirteen participants (10 from the Division and three from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development) attended the activity. Prof. Dr. Alexis Fillone, a professor of Civil Engineering in the Gokongwei College of Engineering at De La Salle University in Manila, served as the guest speaker.

Dr. Fillone is the project leader of the Sustainable Technology-Assisted Route Planning for Region VI (STARPLAN VI), a DOST-PCIEERD-funded research project.

The aim of the project is to provide a sustainable public transport system for Region VI by developing technologies such as a bus passenger counter, a communication system to transmit data, an android application to track land and sea-based commuters, a PUV scheduling tool, and the infrastructure assessment tool.

During the workshop, Dr. Fillone demonstrated how to use the features of the software, such as importing road networks from Open Street Map and getting Zones from PhilGis. He also discussed the basic commands in editing a transport network.

With the participation of the university in this workshop, it can help the Iloilo City LGU with the management of the software, and it can also open possibilities for future transportation research. (Daundee Fernandez, DPSM)
