DOLE promotes livelihood productivity thru values formation

DOLE RO 6-Guimaras Field Office Head Engr. Michael L. Gison discusses with the participants the legal basis and the practices of occupational safety and health in the workplace.

Providing livelihood is not the end of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) goal to alleviate the living condition of the marginalized sector. It goes beyond by instilling in its beneficiaries the values of productivity and success of their endeavors.

DOLE-6 through its Guimaras Field Office (GFO) in collaboration with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-6 (RTWPB) and the Provincial Government of Guimaras gathered 82 participants from the municipalities of Buenavista and San Lorenzo for the ISTIV DILEEP training.

ISTIV is a values-driven human resource intervention for quality and productivity improvement that is imbedded in the five ideal attributes of a productive individual: Industrious, Systematic, Time-conscious, Innovative, and Value for work.

The two-day training aimed to capacitate the beneficiaries in recording the progress of their businesses. It was also conducted to improve their housekeeping and awareness in occupation safety and health in the workplaces.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. encourages other organizations to conduct similar trainings for productivity enhancement considering that it is not only beneficial to individual workers but also to their associations, cooperatives and communities.

Newly-installed DOLE RO 6-GFO OIC-Head Engr. Michael L.Gison said the training would impact the workers’ group since the participants were from six (6) associations in the province – Tanag Fisherfolks Association, Buenavista Pumpboat Sailor’s Association, Navalas-Integrated Women’s Alliance Association, Buenavista PWD Association, Suclaran Micro Entrepreneur Association, Tamborong Souvenir Food and Tour-Guide Association, San Roque Farmers Association and Nueva Valencia Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Engr. Gison discussed with the participants the importance of maintaining safety in the workplace and in avoiding accidents in their respective establishments. Meanwhile, Ms. Mistah de la Torre of RTWPB 6 broadened the participants understanding on the importance of values in the realization of their organization’s goals.
