The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 recognized 12 Local Government Units (LGUs) for their notable and outstanding performances in employment facilitation services during the recently concluded Regional Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Congress held in Boracay, Malay, Aklan.

These LGUs are Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, as well as the Municipalities of Tibiao (Antique), Lambunao, Oton, Barotac Viejo and Passi City (Iloilo), Roxas City (Capiz), and Bago City (Negros Occidental).

The 2019 Regional PESO Congress was successfully held despite the stormy weather condition and was attended by 127 PESO Managers and staff together with the City and Municipal Councilors from six provinces of Region 6.

The three-day activity was highlighted by learning sessions on Labor Market Information; Updates on PESO Institutionalization; R.A. 11058 or an Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS); and, OWWA Programs and Services with emphasis on the convergence of PESO-OWWA-DOLE in serving the Overseas Filipino Workers.

This year’s theme, “Sa PESO, may disenteng trabaho ang bawat Pilipino” articulately underscores and strongly recognizes the vital role of PESO in the employment facilitation services and DOLE’s continuous thrust to advocate for its institutionalization in all municipalities and provinces in the country with 48 institutionalized PESOs in Region 6.

The activity paved the way to nurture public and private sectors’ partnerships, improve and expand employment facilitation services, and strengthen participants’ technical knowledge through learning sessions, productive interactions, networking and convergence.

Of the 127 participants who attended the Congress, Negros Occidental sent the most number of contingent (30), followed by the Provinces of Capiz (28), Iloilo (24), Aklan (23), Antique (17), and Guimaras (5).

The Regional PESO Congress is an annual event which aims to capacitate the PESO managers and staff by strengthening and enhancing their knowledge, skills and networking especially in employment facilitation services.
