ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A dog was hailed a hero for rescuing an abandoned newborn baby girl at Sitio Calumdom, Barangay Tiza on Sunday.

The Roxas Animal Welfare Society (RAWS) headed by Gia Potato praised “Bodi” for “mouth-carrying” the baby to its “fur-parents.”

Potato said Bodi’s gesture was extraordinary and worthy of praise. She was immediately taken to St. Anthony College Hospital for treatment of her injured feet.

Sr. Remedios Tidor DC, hospital administrator of St. Anthony College Hospital, said the infant suffered serious injuries in her lower limbs.

Tidor said they performed an “emergency baptism” for the baby whom they christened Krishia Antonette Padua after the hospital’s patron saint Anthony de Padua.

The baby is presently in stable condition at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital.

Police are investigating the incident to trace the parents of the baby girl.

Some residents allegedly saw two students on a motorcycle leaving the area where the dog found the newborn baby.

Punong Barangay Alfredo Albaladejo said they would try to look for the parents of the newborn.
