DOE fetes Energy Efficiency Excellence awardees

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced the awardees of the 2022 Energy Efficiency Excellence (EEE) Awards during a simple ceremony held at the Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City last 22 December 2022. Twenty-four (24) out of Three Hundred Twenty-Seven (327) entries from the private and government entities were recognized for their exceptional implementation of energy efficiency programs and innovation and adoption of energy efficiency conservation best practices.

These twenty-four entities covering the industrial, commercial, and government establishments generated a total savings of 36,944,319.75 kWh of electricity, 60,912.55 liters of diesel, and 44,059 liters of gasoline, respectively.

The EEE Awards is an annual event of the DOE in recognition of the outstanding achievements and best practices of the buildings, industries, groups, individuals, and the government sector in implementing EEC in their respective facilities. It is aimed to promote exemplary energy management systems in all buildings, including local and government facilities, and adopt innovative energy management approaches into policies, guidelines, and initiatives.

“In this year’s EEE Awards, we have received a total of 327 entries coming from private and government entities. We thank you for your participation by submitting your entries. Twenty-four entities made it to the cut, but everyone who made an effort deserves recognition and congratulations. And so, acknowledging your contribution to upholding excellence in our energy conservation and efficiency efforts, we at the DOE would like to thank you and commend you, especially all our awardees, for giving full support in responding to our call. Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla said.

The EEE Awards are divided into two categories. These are the EEE Awards on Energy Management for Industries and Buildings and the EEE Awards for Government.

The Energy Management for Industries and Buildings Awards has four sub-categories. These include Energy Management for Large Buildings, Energy Management for Small and Medium Buildings, Energy Management for Large Industry, Energy Management for New and Existing Building, and Energy Management for Tropical Building.

For the EEE Awards for Government, its sub-categories include National Government Agencies (NGA), Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs), Local Government Units (LGUs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCS), and a Special Award for Government.

For the Energy Management for Industries and Buildings category, the following are the recipients under different sub-categories:

Circuit Corporate Center One, Robinsons Place Gensan, and North Triangle Depot Commercial Corporation or Trinoma received the highest ratings of 86.70%, 85.33%, and 85.17%, respectively, from the entries under the large building sub-category. These establishments garnered combined energy savings equivalent to 16,689,927.00 kilowatt-hours.

Meanwhile, Serendra Retail, CBP Tech Tower, and Glorietta Corporate Center Two received ratings of 91.33%, 90.00%, and 87.00%, respectively, for the small and medium building sub-category. They earned combined energy savings of 2,396,477.40 kilowatt-hours.

Ayala Center Cebu District Cooling System Plant, Canon Business Machines (Philippines) Inc., and Ayala Center Makati District Cooling System Plant received ratings of 89.70%, 88.00%, and 87.00%, respectively, from the entries under the large industry sub-category. They had a combined energy savings of 5,954,666.67 kilowatt-hours.

Ayala Malls Central Bloc and Ayala Malls Manila Bay earned ratings of 89.00% and 88.00%, respectively, from the new and existing building sub-category entries. They had a total combined energy savings of 5,840,000.00 kilowatt-hours.

Meanwhile, Baguio Ayala land Technohub and Ayala Malls Solenad earned ratings of 87.00% and 85.00% from the entries under the tropical building sub-category. They had a combined energy savings of 4,350,319.43 kilowatt-hours.

“With energy efficiency and conservation as a whole-of-nation approach to reduce consumption and ultimately earn savings, I encourage others also to approach this advocacy creatively and with fervor, especially as we further improve our energy efficiency and conservation program,” the Secretary said

For the EEE Awards for Government, the criterion for selection was based on the government entities’ compliance with the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP). Particularly, nominees are assessed based on energy efficiency measures and initiatives for fuel and electricity, recorded savings or energy efficiency cost reductions, and energy audit ratings.

The following are the recipients under different sub-categories:

Department of Education-Region XII, National Economic and Development Authority-Region V, and National Economic and Development Authority-Region VI earned ratings of 90.00%, 86.00%, and 85.00%, respectively, under the National Government sub-category. They recorded a total combined savings of 62,012.00 kilowatt-hours.

Under the Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation sub-category, the Development Academy of the Philippines and the National Power Corporation – SPUG Luzon Operations Department earned ratings of 95.00% and 90.00%, respectively. They recorded a total combined energy savings of 1,116,760.00 kilowatt-hours.

The Provincial Government of Bulacan, the City Government of Kidapawan, and the Provincial Government of Sorsogon earned ratings of 90.00%, 86.00%, and 85.00%, respectively, under the Local Government Units sub-category. They recorded a total combined energy savings of 304,316.19 kilowatt-hours.

Meanwhile, Samar State University and Rizal Technological University earned ratings of 90.00% and 85%, respectively, under the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) sub-category. They recorded a total combined energy savings of 229,840.00 kilowatt-hours.

Lastly, the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) receives the DOE Special Award for Government to for its commendable compliance with the implementation of GEMP and for serving as a model among government hospitals in the implementation of EEC.

“In the days ahead, especially as we approach the hot months, the need for energy efficiency and conservation will even become more pronounced. So, we see you as our allies in repeating the message and making sure that the necessary steps are taken to use more judicious energy,” the Secretary said.
