BACOLOD City – One of two brothers was arrested in a buy-bust operation at Purok Neptune, Barangay Singcang-Airport here last Saturday.

Arrested was Christopher Cañete, 40, while his younger brother Carlo Jake Cañete, 35, managed to escape. Both are dispatchers and residents of the said village.

Police Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said the younger Cañete jumped into a river near their house when his elder brother was already busted.

Puerto said the elder Cañete allegedly sold shabu to a police agent during the operation.

Police recovered eight grams of suspected shabu worth P54,400, and the P500 marked money.

Puerto said the elder Cañete was arrested for a drug offense in 2018 and was released in 2021 through plea bargaining.

The siblings are on the drugs watchlist of the barangay and the police station, according to Puerto.

They’ve been placed under monitoring for a few weeks, following information about their alleged engagement in the illegal drug trade.

Charges for sale and illegal possession of dangerous drugs will be filed against Christopher, while Carlo Jake may face a case for the sale of dangerous drugs, in conspiracy with his elder brother.

Meanwhile, two grams of suspected shabu worth P13,600 was also seized from a butcher in Barangay Zone 1, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on the same day.
