DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6 Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr. inspired students to keep striving hard and to work as stewards of environment during the Pasidungog 2019 ofthe West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) at Lambunao Inca, Iloilo, recently.

In his speech, RED Milla underscored the envionmental issues that we are facing today.

“One of the formidable challenges the human race is facing today is climate change. It poses a fundamental threat to our forests, animal species, environment, and our livelihood as well. All of planet’s diversity of life virtually stands at risk with the changing climate,he said.

“Our country is also facing the gargantuan challenge of addressing environmental degradation na dala po ng pagdami ng ating populasyon. Kasama sa mga challenges natin ay ang pagkalbo ng mga gubat, polusyon sa tubig at hangin, di tamang pagtapon ng basura, pag-abuso ng ating mga yaman dagat o coastal resources. Lalo na ng mangroves natin,”he added.

He also cited the fact that the DENR 6 has employed forestry graduates of WVSU-CAF, and mentioned the names of key officials who are alumni of the school.

RED Milla further encouraged all students and parents to participate on environmental activities such as tree or mangrove planting, even report environmental abuses.

“Sa gayon po, bawat kahoy na naitatanim at lumaki, dagdag po ito sa mga kahoy na siyang nag-aabsorb ng carbon emission natin. All of us can be an instrument to fight and stop global warming that triggers climate change. Please remember, we have only one earth to live in. Together, let us all work hard to protect it,” he said.

RED Milla also outlined DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu’s ten priority agenda in his message and noted how the said priorities are proven effective in addressing national and regional environmental concerns. (DENR-6)
