Dengue cases in Capiz balloon to 2,589

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Dengue cases in Capiz have ballooned to 2,589, local officials reported.

Records from the Department of Health (DOH), Provincial Health Office, and the Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit (CESRU) registered an upsurge of 800 percent in dengue cases from January to July 10, 2019 compared to the same period in 2018.

According to Joeffrey Pancho Espiritu, development management officer IV of the DOH-Capiz, Roxas City tops the list with 518 cases.

Dao is second with 276; Pontevedra, 235;  Panay, 220; Tapaz, 212; Pres. Roxas, 181; Ivisan, 164; Mambusao, 111; Panit-an, 103; Sigma, 95; Dumalag, 94; Jamindan, 78; Sapian, 73; Cuartero, 66; Maayon, 59; Dumarao, 54; and in Pilar, 50.

Because of the alarming situation, the provincial crisis management committee will call a meeting to tackle solutions to the rising dengue cases.

Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras is also mulling to declare a dengue outbreak in the province.
