CPU Golden Lions gear up for National PRISAA 2019

THE Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions will see action in 12 games as they represent Western Visayas in the 2019 National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) in Davao City from May 19 to 25. 

60 student-athletes left Iloilo to start their National PRISAA campaign, hoping to retain their stellar performance in the week-long competition. 

The university will field players in men’s and women’s volleyball, boys’ volleyball, women’s, boys’ and girls’ tennis, women’s softball, girls’ chess, mens’ and boys’ taekwondo, and sepak-takraw.

Several schools also selected Golden Lions in boys’ football, athletics, womens’ basketball and taekwondo, karatedo, boys’ chess, girls’ volleyball, and swimming. 

According to Edwin Laru-an, CPU officer-in-charge in sports, they are wishing for the safe travel and play of the players. 

“Please pray for the safety of our players, coaches and delegation officials.  In  behalf of the CPU Golden Lions, I would like to thank the CPU Administration headed by President Dr. Teodoro Robles, CPU AAI and Officer – President Engr. Isagani Jalbuena. Thank you also to Generika Drug Store, Giligan’s Restaurant, More Power, and the Daily Guardian,” Laru-an said. 

More or less 10,000 delegates from 500 private universities and colleges in 17 regions all over the Philippines will compete in this year’s PRISAA National Games.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, showbiz and sports celebrities will be invited to the opening of the annual games.

Officials from Commission on Higher Education of 17 regions, National Sports Association and the commissioners of the Philippine Sports Commission will also attend the event.

PRISAA Games sports events include athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball, boxing, beach volleyball, chess, dancesports, football, karatedo, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table Tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and weightlifting. Other academic and cultural events include oratorical, vocal duet, vocal solo, PRISAAyawan and Mutya ng PRISAA.

The event is a joint undertaking of the Philippine Sports Commission, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and the Technical Education and Skills Authority.
