The CPU Golden Lions Women’s basketball squad fought with their all, but they fell short.

Colegio Dela Purisima Concepcion halted CPU’s late rally in the fourth to seal the win in their 2019 UNIGAMES Women’s basketball showdown, 84-77.

CDPC’s half-court plays were magnificent to watch as they constantly pinned down the corners, providing two to four screens to free up their shooters.

The play proved to be efficient for CDPC as they sank their first four treys out of 8 attempts all in the first quarter, making it hard for CPU’s defenders to battle every screen they pass through.

CPU then slowly inched closer in the ball game during the second period when they started to be pesky underneath, boxing out with good timing to grab offensive boards and convert on putbacks.

It was in the third where CDPC rolled when they started to mix things up and stepped on their gas, nailing three touch passes for a break-away layup off their consistent defense.

With under 6 minutes left in the game, CPU started to catch fire and fight through CDPC’s screens well for an excellent defensive output but could not overcome the lead.
