BACOLOD City – A couple on a motorcycle died after allegedly crashing into a 10-wheeler truck at Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental early Monday.

Killed were Genesis Inquig, 23, and partner Jessabel Andaya, 20, both residents of Barangay Bajumpandan.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo Alarcon Jr., city police chief, said the couple was heading to Valencia town when they failed to notice the truck that was partly parked on the road due to engine trouble around 1 a.m.

Alarcon said an early warning device was installed in the area but the couple allegedly did not notice the sign.

Both victims died on the spot due to serious head injuries. Alarcon said Andaya was believed to be three months pregnant.

Alarcon said the truck driver is under police custody and will be released after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
