A couple from Calumpang, Molo stunned netizens in their unique black-themed wedding – veering away from the traditional white and usually colorful weddings.

Daryl Mosquera-Jetonzo and Gerald Paul Jetonzo, who have been a couple for more than eight years, officially tied the knot on Dec 12, 2020 at the Medal Parish in Molo district.

The black-themed wedding was made even more special with the bride wearing a unique black gown made by Ilonggo designer James Roa.

According to the groom Gerald Paul, black has been Daryl’s favorite color and so he supported his wife and opted for a black-themed wedding.

“Favorite color gid sang wife ko ang black. Hambal niya mas naga-gwapa pa gid siya if naka-black siya. Ti support man kami tanan sa gusto niya eh,” he said in an interview.

When they uploaded their wedding photos online, Gerald said they did not expect the photos to go viral.

“Unexpected man gani. Pag-upload ko sang wedding SDE video namon the day before the viral post, daw wala gid man damo likes and shares. Pagka-bwas nag-upload ko liwat photos naman. Didto na nagsugod damo shares ang post,” he added.

Despite the not-so-traditional theme of the wedding, the couple clarified that they sought permission from their parish priest before deciding on the theme of the wedding.

Gerald Paul said their parish priest explained that there are no rules on the color of the dress of the bride and the entourage.

“Bale close gid kami katama sa mga priests namon. We were serving our parish ministry for more than a decade na. Nag-seek permission man kami sa parish priest namon. Hambal niya sa amon technically wala man daw church rules sa color of the dress. Ang importante is hindi kami magbulaganay,” he added.

In these modern times, Gerard Paul said it is high time that people should be open-minded and welcome new wedding ideas. However, he pointed out that it is always important to seek professional/liturgical advice first before finally deciding on the wedding.

“Mangin open lang kita sa mga new ideas. Always seek professional/liturgical advice first, before mag-decide sa mga plans, eapecially sa weddings. Nagapati kami sang wife ko nga through our motif and concept, mangin memorable gid katama ang amon celebration,” he said.

While some netizens raised their eyebrows questioning the wedding theme, the couple chose to shrug off the negative comments.

The black-themed wedding may raise the eyebrows of conventional thinkers but for the couple, it is their own way of celebrating their once-in-a-lifetime wedding in the most memorable way possible.

Wala naman kami ga-batô sa mga negative comments as advised by our parish priest. Gin-estorya nya ako kagab-i. Hambal niya hindi lang daw pagsapakon. Ang importante nakasal gid kami,” Gerald Paul shared. (ERS)
