BACOLOD City – Personnel of Police Station 8 here voluntarily gave their coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hazard pay to their colleague, whose house was destroyed by a fire last week at Barangay 20 here.

Captain Jun Ray Batadlan, station commander, said they decided to give Staff Sergeant Hil Mharie Ortega, cash aid totaling P22,000 to help their colleague who lost his valuables in the fire.

“Wala gid siya may na save even ang police uniform, laptops sang bata niya guba gid,” he added.

Batadlan said half of the station personnel were supposed to receive P1,500 in hazard pay each, but they all agreed to divide among the 31 officers so that everybody can avail.

But when they learned about Ortega’s situation, they decided to give the money to help him.

“Mas maayo abi na makabulig gid kami especially subong na may pandemic pa,” Batadlan said.
