Cops have person of interest in hit-and-run

BACOLOD City – Police Station 6 here has a person of interest behind the hit-and-run which killed a man and injured two others at Barangay 33 here last Sunday.

Captain Elmer Bonilla, PS-6 station commander, refused to name the van driver while they are still locating his whereabouts.

Bonilla said the van driver will be charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, damage to property, and physical injuries.

Bonilla said the van driver was identified based on the police investigation and statement from a witness.

“Nag correlate ang duha ka information, that’s why we came up with this result,” he added.

Bonilla said that the van driver and his companion were allegedly involved in a commotion in a restobar along Lacson Street on Saturday night, prior to the accident.

The van driver and his companion fled but they were chased by the other group which got the vehicle’s license plate and also witnessed the accident, he added.

He said the speeding van reportedly hit a tricycle driven by Alexander Mabilog, 33, of Brgy. Taculing here, who got injured in the accident. His passenger, Roschel Dela Tore, 37, of Brgy. Vista Alegre here, was also wounded while Mario Garcia, 55, of Murcia, Negros Occidental was killed in the accident.

He said they went to the van driver’s house to check him but he was not there.

“Kun puwede lang tani na ma surrender na lang siya,” he added.
