Concrete road improves mobility to tourist sites in Guimaras island

Magnificent white beaches and islets in Brgy. Sinapsapan in the coastal area of Jordan, Guimaras are now at hand with the paved access road provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH-Guimaras District Engineering Office recently completed the construction of 793-lineal meter long, 6.1-meter wide, 2-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road along Sta. Teresa-Sinapsapan Road.

As reported by District Engineer (DE) Rhodora B. Nuñal, Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said this ₱39-million concrete access road leads famous tourism destinations in the island.

“This paved access road will serve as main access road from Jordan town proper, providing both tourists and locals with a convenient and safer travel to various tourist areas such as Isla Naburot, Ave Maria Islet, Natago Beach, and Tatlong Pulo Beach,” Engr. Bueno said.

“Necessary road safety markings to include metal guardrails and reflectorized pavement markings were also provided for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and the people in the community,” Bueno added.

DE Rhodora B. Nuñal said that the project is implemented in an effort to improve mobility and boost tourism activities in the area.

“The project will not only help improve tourism in the area but also the socio-economic conditions of residents as new job opportunities open brought by the tourism industry,” DE Nuñal said.

Barangay Captain Maribel Gersabalino of Brgy. Sinapsapan said in an interview that the road is a huge help not only to the tourism industry but also in helping protect the lives and properties of the locals during heavy rains and high tides.

“We used to suffer flooding and unpassable muddy roads during the rainy season so we are very thankful that we can now have better road access and prevent flooding,” said Brgy. Capt. Gersabalino.

Funded under the GAA 2022, the said project is also under DPWH – DOT Convergence Program. (DPWH-6)
