Bacolod City – Negros Occidental Provincial Commission on Election (Comelec) supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria called on voters to register as the registration ends today, January 31, 2023, at 5 p.m.

Ananoria told reporters here that those who register can participate in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October this year as well as the midterm elections in 2025.

He imparted to reporters here that the number of registrants has leveled off, though, noting that on Week 7 the number slightly dipped compared to Week six.

“It went down by 400,” he said.

So far, the number of registrants as of Monday is 47,287, including 11,670 in the 15-17 age group for the SK election.

Ananoria said that so far, there is no advice yet for the extension of the registration period.

Ananoria said that on the national level, Comelec has reached its target of 1.5 million new registrants.

But in the province, he doubts if they could attain the 10 percent target of the 1.9 million voters.

“Maybe we can get 50,000, that is good enough,” he said.
