City Hall fetes top taxpayers

Leading taxpayers in Iloilo City who helped sustain the metro amid the Covid-19 pandemic will be recognized today, August 25, 2022 at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON) as part of the city’s 85th Charter Day celebration.

The awarding ceremonies which will be a simple dinner will be the highlight of the city’s 85th Charter Day celebration. 

According to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, the city government will recognize the Top 10 taxpayers for business and real property taxes both for corporate and individual categories.

“The highlight of our celebration will be the awarding of the Top 10 nga tax payers sang real property kag business taxpayers both may corporate kag individuals. Tagaan ta sila award and certificates,” he said during the press conference on Monday.

The mayor said that they deemed it necessary to recognize the huge contribution of the business sector particularly the taxpayers who helped the city by diligently paying the required taxes amid the challenges of the pandemic.

“They ensured that Iloilo City continues to be relevant. Iloilo continues to be one of the most attractive places to invest with. Even during the pandemic. with the help of these businessmen and corporations Iloilo was able to get a surplus of almost P500 million,” he said.

In 2021, Iloilo City posted more than P400 million in tax surplus, which exceeded the projected collection and savings from personnel and operating expenses.

Treñas stressed that governance is a shared responsibility between the governors and the governed.

“As long as everyone helps ang mga challenges indi mabudlay,” he said.

Meanwhile, VIPs are expected to grace the awarding ceremonies tomorrow.

The mayor confirmed that Former President and Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Vice President Sara Duterte, and House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe of the 2nd district of Zamboanga will be attending the event.

Malacañang has declared August 25, 2022 as a special non-working day in Iloilo City in celebration of the city’s 85th Charter Anniversary.
