BACOLOD City – City Administrator Em Ang said she is determined to address the problems of the public markets in the city.
Apart from sanitation, repair and rehabilitation Ang said markets concerns also include the rental arrears of the tenants as well as the continued clearing of the market surroundings and the sidewalk vendors as well.
She told Daily Guardian that while the city government is doing all it can to put order in the city’s public markets, the tenants and vendors also have to their share.
Ang appealed to the tenants and vendors for their cooperation.
“We have to do this together,” Ang said.
She cited, for instance, that some tenants still sell their goods on the sidewalks despite the clearing operations claiming their income is affected.
Ang said that marketgoers will go inside the market if they want to buy something.
“It is a matter of discipline,” Ang said.
The city also has required market supervisors to report to Ang and send her pictures and videos of the market situation.
Ang said markets are flushed with water daily to maintain sanitation.
Meanwhile, Ang said she has reviewed the rental status of the three markets indicating that the arrears totaled P8 million.
“We also have to address this,” she said.
